A Short Bio

I am an associate professor at the Dipartimento di Elettronica, Informazione e Bioingegneria of Politecnico di Milano since January 2015. I received my “Laurea” (MS equivalent) in Telecommunications Engineering and my PhD in Information Engineering from the Politecnico di Milano in 2000 and 2004 respectively. From September 2002 to March 2003 I have been visiting the Wireless Adaptive Mobility Lab at the University of California in Los Angeles (UCLA) doing research on MAC design for ad hoc networks and quality of service in Wireless Personal Area Networks. In 2004, I received the Dimitris Chorafas Foundation Award in recognition of my doctoral thesis on “Packet Transmission in new Generation Wireless Systems: from UMTS to Ad-hoc Networks”.

Research

My research interests are in the two broad fields of the Internet of Things and Wireless Networks. A few buzz-words that "badly" capture my research are:

- Internet of Things: optimization, design and implementation of visual sensor networks; design and implementation of integrated systems for eHealth based on wireless sensor networks

- Network Data Analytics: apply machine learning tools to network data logs to anticipate/predict network status and optimize accordingly

- Infrastructure and spectrum sharing in 5G networks: performance evaluation of competitive/cooperative infrastructure/spectrum sharing techniques
